Red Mango - J's No.1 Frozen Yogurt in Singapore~

The latest craze in Singapore is the blooming yoghurt chains within the tiny dot on the world map. Big names like "Yami Yogurt", "Yoguru", "Frolick", "Yogurt Place" etc have dominated the shopping malls. Yogurt is indeed ladies' best friend, as they are low fat and contain live probiotics which promote intestinal health, strengthens your immune system yada yada... (Food bloggers don't really care as long as its delicious and worth the calories right? :P) We are definitely not missing out on this yogurt craze, and having tried from the various yogurt chains, we are proud to announce that Red Mango has found its way to the first 2 spots in our hearts~

Max Brenner Chocolate Bar

Photobucket

"More than anything, I'm in love with chocolate
Chocolate is part of my childhood memories, reminding me of my Mom and Dad
Returning from trips abroad with a suitcase full of chocolates wrapped in cracking colourful paper.
It reminds me of Grandma, hiding chocolate candies in a tin box inside a big wooden cupboard.
It's part of my youth.
And it reminds me of Ana, my first love.
I'm mesmerized with the history of chocolate, and I'm entranced by the nostalgic stories around it, which carry me back to long gone romantic days.
Chocolate is passionate. It's sexy and prestigious, and I always start my morning by eating a tablet of milk chocolate with nuts.
I invite you to watch, smell and taste my love story."

Thai Express - Hate it or love it

Photobucket
Thai Cuisine is well-known for being hot and spicy and the ability to balance each dish with sweet, sour, spicy and salty flavours. For some, the flavoursome spicy food always get you hooked. People either love it or hate it. We can’t really say that we love spicy food but we just enjoy the thrill of hot sensation warming our stomachs.

Royal China - Introducing to you, the royal dim sum~!

Welcome to Royal China~~

Photobucket

Royal China is one of the must-go restaurants for dim sum lovers. Previously, we went without making a reservation and left disappointed as there weren't any vacancies. Having learnt from the last lesson, we reserved a table and went in high anticipation for some fantastic dim sum treat!

The Asian Kitchen- Decent Food at Affordable Prices

Food Tour Part II
Decided to head to The Asian Kitchen for lunch when we can’t get a table at Royal China!! >.
*We didn’t reserve a table though. Lol! *

Avocado Frost
Was expecting something like avocado juice with crushed ice but tasted creamy?? More like a avocado milk shake than frost.
(A: I’ve never tried avocado juice before so I’m not too sure how does one taste like. It was pretty exotic for me.)
(J: I want to try the king avocado juice from Mr Avocado!!)

Fried rice with luncheon meat
This fried rice was so fragrant! Not too oily & salty. The grains were firm and separated. So unexpected!

J & A’s rating: 4/5

Xiao Long Bao ($3.90 for 4)
We feel that skin was a bit chewy and the soup of the xiao long bao could be better. However, it’s still worth the try for that price! We ordered 2 in the end!
(J: The pork inside the xiao long bao isnt tt pink n juicy too.)

Soft Shell Crab ($8.90 for 2)
Omg!! We love the gravy!! It reminds us of chilli crab! Sweet, sour & a little spicy. How we wished that they serve fried mantou here! The crab was full of crab meat but it could be crispier compared to the one we had in Café Oliv. Café Oliv uses biscuit fritter which gives its soft shell crab the crispiness and we think tt flour batter was used in Asian's Kitchen. But the soft shell crab with the gravy was incredible! Without any mantou, Janelle and I had the gravy with our fried rice! Yummlicious!

Shui Jing Bao
This shui jing bao was not what we expected.
(A: I supposed the skin should be transparent but it’s white in colour here. The skin tasted more like mochi to me.)
(J: I didnt really like it bcos its sticky n too chewy. I'm not sure if its e right word to describe but e red bean paste was too pastey n thick for me. I prefer the premium azuki where u can actually taste n bite e red bean in e paste!)

Fried banana with red bean
This tasted a bit like goreng pisang with a bit of red bean paste inside. It was served with some sweet sauce which we’ve yet to figure it out what it was. Haha..

J's & A’s rating: 3.5/5

We feel that The Asian Kitchen is still worth the visit for their price and some unexpectedly good food and exceptional services. Food were served promptly and they even changed out cutlery and serviette after our mains for desserts! Next time we would try out their la mien.

Ochacha- Ohhh sooo goOd~ Ohhh sooo baD!

We’ve been to Ochacha a couple of times for their famous macha drink. Our favourite drink is Ochacha silk (green tea powder + soya milk) which is thick n creamy. Never ever order it in cold! The Ochacha silk will be diluted by the melting ice. We’re back again once more to try out other yummy goodies!
Ochacha Silk ($4.80)
*1 for 1 Mon – Fri from 3pm – 6pm!*
J's & A’s rating: 4.25/ 5

We ordered the matcha cotton cupcake BUT it was so disappointing!! Although it was green in colour, there was no matcha fragrance at all! In fact, it's tasteless. The texture of the cake is more of a sponge cake than a cotton cake. We did not even manage to finish half of the small cotton cake!
(A: I thought pandan chiffon cake was way nicer than this. Much softer, spongier & full of pandan flavour. LOL)
Matcha Cotton Cupcake $2.90
J's & A’s rating: 2/5

Now came our unexpected surprise!! With the discontentment we had earlier. This Sakura Egg Sandwich definitely lit up our evening!
Sakura Egg Sandwich ($4.80)
We were SPEECHLESS when we took the first bite.
Silence for a moment....
It was DELICIOUS! We can’t describe the taste BUT YOU GOTTA TRY IT! This was the BEST EGG SANDWICH we’ve ever tried! It’s an extraordinary egg sandwich! That’s why it tasted sooo good! The bread was so soft! Definitely softer than cedele’s bread! We can’t find any words to describe this sandwich bcos its neither sweet, sour, salty, spicy nor blah blah blah but the taste of it is certainly one of its kind... U can be sure that you will not end up in disappointment!
J's & A’s rating: 4.5/5
P/S: The prices r exclusive of 7% GST.

Cedele - Healthy & Organic Yummy Cakes!

Cedele Bakery Depot is one of few bakeries in Singapore where you can find cakes and sandwiches that are healthy & transfat free! Besides, the food served are all organic.
We loved the cakes here because they're tasty and much healthier than other cafes.
The flour that they used are mostly whole wheat & high in fibre!

Here is a summary of the cakes that we tried!

Apple & Nut Cheesecake
This is the first cake that we tried at Cedele. The cheese is so light, smooth & melts in the mouth! They give generous amount of sweet, thick apple slices in the cheesecake and we loved the crunchy strussel nut toppings on the cake!

J's & A's rating: 4.75/5

Carrot Walnut Cake
This is Cedele's best seller! Generous amount of shredded carrots & california walnuts with cream cheese frosting! The cream cheese was not too sweet & heavy! A generally healthy cake for the diet concious!
(J: I absolutely love the crunch of the walnut chunks in this cake and this cake is quite moist too!)

J's & A's ratings: 4.75/5

Blueberry Hazelnut Cheesecake
This cake was a bit disappointing as there is very little blueberries and it tasted just like normal cheesecake.

J's & A's rating: 3.5/5
Photobucket

Orange Macademia Cheesecake
This cake was pretty exotic as we had never tried orange cheesecake before.
(A: I didn't like this cake as I feel the orange taste was too strong for me.)
(J: I enjoy the tanginess of the orange in this macademia cheesecake which makes it special for me. Downside? The macademia arent crunchy at all.)

A's rating: 3/5, J's raing: 3.75/5
Photobucket

Chocolate Cookies & Cream Cheesecake
This was actually their new cheesecake! Generous amount of crushed oreos but we feel that the cheesecake would be better if it was softer and lighter. Bakerzin's cookies & cream cheesecake was better.
(J: I felt that the cheese was quite heavy and e oreo has no crunch at all. Like 'lao hong' already haha)

A's ratings: 3.5/5, J's ratings: 3/5
Photobucket

Banana Meringue Pie
This pie was a surprised! It was amazingly good! The white foam was actually egg whites and the whole combination tasted so good! With slices of banana at the bottom, this pie was crispy (crust), moist (egg white foam) & soft!
(J: The crust is slightly tad too sweet for me. I wish the banana slices could be fresher too. Particularly enjoy how e foam dissolves in my mouth~)

J's & A's ratings: 4.25/5
Photobucket

Blueberry Maple Cake
We love blueberries! And we always look forward to this cake as we wanted to try it out. But this cake was a little disappointing as we expected something even better. However, the cake was flavoured with maple syrup and we quite like it (J: Reminds me of e times in vancouver~)! But it could be better if there's a "WOW" factor.

J's & A's rating: 4.25/5

Chocolate Banana Espresso Cake
This is a soft chocolate cake sandwiched with fresh caramelized banana, topped with espresso chocolate frosting, and finished with crunchy walnut strussel, oat strussel!
What makes this cake unique is the oat strussel!
(A: I feel that this cake was much better than Secret Recipe's choco banana cake. And I like it a lot!)
(J: I'm not a fan of choc banana n e only thing i enjoy abt this cake is e crunchy oat strussel. I'm curious how they managed to give a crunch to oats haha. Rest of it taste pretty ordinary to me n i get sick of eating it after a while.)

A's rating: 4.5/5, J's rating: 3.75/5

Black Sesame Cake with Tahini frosting
This is the cake that managed get to our top 3 list! Strong flavour of black sesame seeds reminds us of the black sesame paste! U can actually bite e individual sesame seeds. Do try it!
(J: Erm, e fig is tasteless.)

J's rating: 4.5/5, A's rating: 4.75/5
Photobucket

Raisin & Cranberry Scones
The scones here were quite disappointing as it tasted cakey rather than soft and fluffy. We feel that Good Morning Nanyang's scones are much better than this.

J's rating: 3/5, A's rating: 3.75/5

J's & A's Top 3 cakes in Cedele:
Carrot Walnut Cake
Apple & Nut Cheesecake
Black Sesame Cake with Tahini Frosting

P/S: Due to inconsistency in food quality in different branches, our fav branch for cakes appreciation is raffles city cedele bakery depot and the most generous branch for rosemary chicken sandwich is the vivocity branch.
