Hiang Ji Roasted Meat & Noodle House - Nice dumplings!

A's sharp nose picked up the trailing scent of roasted meat and drew us to Hiang Ji along East Coast Rd. She simply can't resist roast duck, unlike J who has not been a duckie fan since young as she found the meat too tough.

We settled down in the little shop, waiting to be served. Without any hesitation, A ordered her Roast Duck Drumstick Noodle ($6) delightfully.

A's heart sank when she took her first bite. Despite ordering the drumstick which should be juicier and tender, the meat was tough and dry. The noodles were slightly dry and firm too, definitely not the springy ones which bounces on your tongue. It was acceptable but could be better.

A's rating: 3/5

Mom and J shared plain noodles and ordered Dumpling Soup ($8) for all to share.

Surprisingly, the dumpling fared better than their specialty. Dumpling skin was thin, translucent and so silky smooth that it slithered down our throats effortlessly. The big crunchy prawns and traces of tender pink minced pork wrapped within, were satisfactorily fresh. Oh yes, and not forgetting our favourite black fungus which elevates the score of this simple dish (due to our personal preference =P)!

A & J's rating: 4.25/5

Stir-fried Long Beans with Shredded Meat ($8)
High in sodium and too spicy to make this dish an enjoyment. Long beans were disappointingly thin, flat and oily. They were also quite sticky and gooey. Our mom can definitely make a better rendition of this dish =P
