Ministry of Food - Goodbye our love~~

Photobucket

You may seem insignificant to some others...
But in our eyes, you are so dainty, charming and precious...
There's always a place for you in our hearts...
This may be the last time you appear before us...
Let us just enjoy every moment with you, till the end...
Goodbye our love, plum rice tamago~

Plum Rice Tamago $3.80
Plum rice tamago has always been our love in MOF until recently, they decided to remove it from the menu. Reason being it's not popular with the customers! Frankly speaking, we feel that it's this simple yet unique dish that made MOF stands out from the rest. Japanese restaurants usually offer tamago filled with normal japanese white rice. We requested for our favourite dish to be served and the manager affirmed that this would be the last time they would accede to our request. :(

The tamago was firm and yet retained its sweet juiciness. Paired with the lightly soured plum rice (which was exceptionally moist that day), it was very appetising and satisfying. We certainly enjoyed the tiny bursts of fish roe in our mouths. Pity that this would be the last time savouring this darling, we actually ordered 3 plates of it! Ah-ha! All of us should write a petition to MOF and request them not to remove plum rice tamgo from their menu!!

Teriyaki Salmon Belly $8.80
The salmon belly was succulent with slight crispiness of the skin. It was tasty but not exceptional. Teriyaki sauce was ordinary. Well, teriyaki sauce can never go wrong right?

Fried Soft Shell Crab $6.80
We used to come here often just for their soft shell crab. It used to be full of flesh and crab roe. But as soon as this dish was presented before our eyes, we ended up in utter disappointment. Immediately, we questioned the waitress if it was over-fried and she denied so. Though feeling very unwilling, we still gave it a shot. Expectedly, it was a boo-boo. The one served to us hardly had any flesh at all. We were just eating fried crab shell and concluded that this crab must be anorexic. Each of us took a bite and left the rest untouched. We even told the manager that the dish was unacceptable and asked to cancel the order. To make up for the disappointment, that's when we ordered another plate of plum rice tamago to satisfy our stomachs :P

A: Not for consumption, J: I don't even want to rate this.

Chicken Katsu Toji $12.80
Bubbling hot toji indeed brought warmth to us. Chicken katsu was thick and crispy. The skin was not overly thick and fried to perfection. We love this dish but it was not appealing enough to send us to the katsu heaven.
(J: Actually, i do not particularly enjoy katsu once the skin turns soggy.)

We had tried out other dishes before too, including their ramen, shisamo, gelato which we we think are not too bad. Even though some of the dishes failed to make the mark, we will still return to MOF! Reason being they do have some other good dishes worth going for. Including our favourite desserts such as hokkaido Imo soft serve ice-cream and black sesame gelato! Oh yes, not forgetting their azuki beans with almond flakes too~ *droolz*
