Ootoya- Itadakimasu~

Explore the other side of Japanese Cuisine with teishoku. Teishoku (set meal) is part of a typical Japanese dining experience. It usually comprises of a main, a bowl of rice, miso soup and Japanese pickles. And Ootoya, with majority of its chef and waiters being native Japanese, offers a wide range of authentic japanese teishoku at affordable prices.

We bet that many of you already know that one of Ootoya specialty is the Charcoal Grilled Atka Mackerel ($17 for set meal). The fish was grilled to give a smoky flavour and it was firm and juicy. It tasted a little salty on its own but delectable when paired with the Seaweed Rice (Top up $0.90). We find eating the mackerel a breeze as the bones separated easily from the flesh. Not to mention that the mackerel was huge! You may even request for more rice at no additional charges to feed your famished stomachs!

We spotted an interesting appetiser in the menu. Black Soybeans with Hijiki Seaweed in Soy Sauce ($3) was delightful! Sweet soybeans and inari (sweet beancurd skin) complemented the hijiki seaweed very well. Can't help but to dig in for more! Pity that the portion was incredibly tiny~~~

Another item that sparked our interest was the Soymilk Porridge ($12). As the name suggests, we thought that the porridge would actually taste of soymilk. Instead, the soup base tasted more like miso soup and you can barely detect the soymilk. The soymilk porridge consisted of mixed grains, chicken, vegetables and mushrooms. Definitely a comfort food on a cold, rainy day.

Hi there!

Thanks for your compliment.
The dessert looks yummylicious to us too! But we skipped the dessert as we were too full after the meal!
Ootoya is quite a nice place for japanese set meals but if you do go, go around 6pm for dinner as there's not many people queueing.:)
