IKEA - A Taste of Sweden

A taste of Sweden amidst the furniture megastore?

We were shopping for some furnishings at Ikea when our famished stomachs grumbled out aloud. We decided to grab some bites at IKEA Restaurant & Cafe. The Swedish Meatballs in Lingonberry Sauce (15 meatballs at $8) is highly raved by many and our curiosity was aroused when we saw there was at least a plate of the swedish meatballs on almost every table..

We know that the swedish meatballs doesn't come cheap, especially in restaurants. Since now we get to enjoy this delicacy at less than $10, why not?

The meatball is made from minced beef and pork. It tasted rather ordinary on its own but the dish came alive when we dipped the meatballs into the lingonberry jam followed by the cream sauce. The combination of sweet lingonberry jam (which tasted like cranberry sauce) with the savory cream sauce made our tastebuds danced in delight.

We also had Grilled Chicken Thigh...

......and Poached Salmon with Chive.  We shall not comment much as both dishes were overcooked and we didn't like it at all. Dry and tough. The only consolation was the sweet baby carrots.

Next time if you drop by Ikea, do try their swedish meatballs! And remember, only swedish meatballs! *wink*
