Provence- Overly rated?
Food Tour Part I
Woke up early today to start our 1 day food tour! With high anticipation, we finally made our way to Provence at Holland Village!
Here are some of the bread that we’ve tried:
Provence No.1 best seller – Milk Pan
We got it straight from the oven! It was still hot when we eat it. However we feel that the bread was not soft enough. The milk custard was not bad though. Strong fragrance of milk when you bit into it. However we feel that the Raisin Cream Cheese Bun from barcook bakery was way better!
(J: Somehow, the combination of the salty bun with sweet milk custard did not appeal to me. I was also expecting the cream cheese to ooze out like hot lava when i bit into e milkpan but oh well. If i had not tried barcook before provence, i would probably have fallen in love with milk pan but e winner was clear upon comparing provence's milk pan with barcook's raisin cream.)
J's rating: 4/5, A’s rating: 3.75/5
Next, we had the blueberry bun.
The bread was much softer than the milk pan. More cakey in the texture.
(A: Actually I prefer this than the milk pan! Haha! Full of blueberry fillings!)
J's & A’s rating: 4/5
Black sesame cream cheese bun
Strong black sesame and cream cheese taste! The top was crispy and somewhat similar to that of a croissant. (A: The cream cheese flavour was just too strong for me. Don’t really like it.)
J's & A’s rating: 3/5
And finally, the chocolate wassant.
The wassant is soft but it lacks the chocolately taste. It taste pretty normal for us.
(J: I was expecting a croissant size bun n boy, its really small!)
J's & A’s rating: 3.25/5
Conclusion??
Well, people have different taste & views for good food. Provence is not as fantastic as we thought. We won't go to holland v specially just for Provence but wouldnt mind dropping by if we r nearby. Luckily, Provence has stepped foot into Orchard Ion and we dont have to travel tt far anymore! So, we will just stick to our Barcook Bakery! Raisin Cream Cheese Bun! So addictive, so soft & so irresistible!!

Barcook Bakery- so soft tt u can eat it w/o dentures!
The German Museli Loaf
Raisin Cream Cheese Bun just came out of the oven! So fat and fluffy!!
Look at the cheese oozing out!!! The bread is so soft!!
J: Oh no here I go again, WAHHHHH!!! i found my bread heaven in sg! Barcook Bakery serves the softest bread n buns u can ever find in sg! U can easily locate this shop at hong lim complex simply by following the smell of the bread loaves. Upon reaching, it's no surprise to see a long queue unless u really reach early in e morning when they just opened n most bread arent ready yet lol. The best seller of this bakery is of course their raisin cream bun ($1.30). It is sooooo soft, airy n fluffy! Their cream cheese oozes out of the bun when u sink ur teeth into it! The cream cheese texture is cream n not too sticky. Its not too heavy to make u feel sick after finishing 1 bun. Everytime i finish 1 raisin cream i regretted not buying 2! And needless to say, its best eaten IMMEDIATELY when its just out of the oven n e bun is still fat n hot haha. Trust me, it's isnt as nice when it gets cold n deflates into e flat raisin cream. Microwaving it at home doesnt raise its quality to tt when its just hot out of the oven.
My 2nd fav must be their german muesili loaf ($3.50) which is always reserved. So be sure to call n reserve it before collecting! They r really generous with the seeds n nuts in german muesili loaf. Best eaten within the 1st day bcos the bread is really soft. It is soo soft that u gotta hold it with both hands while eating bcos it gets flimsy lol.
A: Even someone like me who doesn't like cheese LOVE THIS CREAM CHEESE BUN!!
J & A's ratings: 5/5 for raisin cream fresh out of the oven, 4.75/5 for german muesili loaf

Chin Mee Chin Confectionary- a disappointing & unhappy breakfast
J: Upon stepping into this confectionary, immediately i had e feelings of e old sch kopitiam. There r displays of the various buns n puffs & CMC's kitchen is v open where u can c all e workers baking, making kopis, tehs, half-boiled eggs etc. However, one major turnoff was the attitude of this auntie who made herself looked v busy although there's only 1 couple other than us waiting to order our food. She made us wait & gave us the cant-be-bothered attitude while taking our orders & this really pissed us off. Woke up early for a nice breakfast & this is what we got grRRrr. Anw, the breakfast was a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT too.
The custard puff is the kind of custard which i hated most. Buttery jammy texture, not the milky smooth liquid custard which I like. The raisin bun has a very awkward taste which smelled weird to me. Most decent bun of all must be their homemade bun with kaya which is a soft fluffy bun slapped with sweet smooth kaya. Well, the bun is decent but the kaya's tad too sweet for me. Lastly, my kopi-o tasted like plain water. Diluted and not gao at all. I only had 3 sips n left with almost a cup full of kopi-o. Very disappointing indeed. Oh i forgot to mention they took years to make e half boiled eggs! We finished all the buns n puffs n e auntie hasnt even started making our eggs. In e end, we cancelled our orders -.-"" I would never head back to CMC confectionary again.
A: Nothing much to comment as I feel that the raisin bun, custard puff was horrible! And hoping that I could find a better Teh 'C' Kao after Tong Ya, I decided to order the same thing from CMC. It tasted like DRAIN WATER! Yucks!
J's ratings: 2/5 for custard puff, raisin bun & kopi-o, 3/5 for homemade bun with kaya
A's ratings: 2/5 for custard puff, raisin bun & Teh C Kao, 3/5 for homemade bun with kaya
